Who can audition for NGjrYWS?

Students in grades 6-8 that are currently enrolled their local school band program. Considerations can be made for students not currently enrolled with their local school band program, but this has to be communicated prior to auditioning.

What do I prepare for my NGjrYWS Audition?

Students should prepare the Chromatic Scale and the Concert F, Bb, Eb, and Ab scales using the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) All-State Ranges. Extra credit will be given to students who perform the concert Db and C scales.

All wind students that are auditioning should print the etude provided below. This will be your required audition etude. There will be a short sight-reading excerpt on the day of the audition as well.

Percussion students should prepare two of three etudes provided below. Each student will then sight read on third instrument. For example, if you prepare the snare and mallet etude, you will sight read on timpani.

Percussion students will also be required to show basic knowledge of 5 stroke rolls, 9 stroke rolls, paradiddles and flams. These rudiments should be performed in an open to close (fast to slow) presentation.

The etudes provided are the required etudes to audition for the North Georgia Junior Youth Wind Symphony.
